Tansi, Tawow, Endlen Ehteh, Welcome

Welcome to the Association of Métis, Non and Status Indians Saskatchewan website.

AMNSIS is based on kinship. We understand that our families go beyond government acts, policies and/or legislation, and colonial categories.

AMNSIS represents Metis, Non-Status, and off reserve Status people and southern Inuit, many of whom are away from their home territory and have no local representation or advocacy.

AMNSIS upholds the grassroots community We are here to help the kinship come together, unlike any other organization, we hold our kinship relationships as the base. Bringing the families together that the Indian Act and other Legislation has disconnected.

Why We Exist.

KINSHIP INCLUDES THE WHOLE FAMILY

  • There are many of us without representation or want representation that aligns with our traditional ways.

  • Amendments to the Indian change our “status” but not our familial ties.

  • AMNSIS represents Off Reserve Status, Non Status, Inuit, and Metis.

  • AMNSIS is kinship, meaning your belonging cannot be denied, revoked or forfeited. The Indian Act is colonial legislation that divides us, even siblings.

  • Inclusion is part of your individual and collective rights.

  • We are recognized under Section 35 of the Canadian Constitution.

  • The 2016 SCC Daniels decision states that Metis and Non-Status are the fiscal responsibility of the Federal Government.

Get Involved.

In August 2020, the Coalition of Aboriginal People made a motion at their AGA to change the organizations name and to revive AMNSIS.

AMNSIS was an organization that was recognized across Canada and with all levels of government. AMNSIS was recognized for their representation of all the people. Jim Sinclair, was the President of AMNSIS and a non-status Indian during the times of the Constitutional talks. He and others charged to the forefront to have Metis included in the Constitution.

The 2016 Daniels decision ensured non-status inclusion in the Constitution. We want to exercise and implement our rights as Indigenous people and to make sure the least of us has a voice to influence the policies that impact us!

AMNSIS is a grassroots community, we are examining; UNDRIP, Duty to Consult, Free Prior Informed Consent, TRC, MMIWG. Are they doing what they need to do for the Indigenous people and the communities in Saskatchewan? We need to be involved and make sure we have a voice. Nothing about us, without us.
